3. What are the requirements for the Continuing Professional Development program?
Please view the CPD program guidelines at www.aicanada.ca/e/members/login.cfm
4. How do I post my CPD credits on-line?
You must visit our National web site at aicanada.ca, enter the Members section by entering your last name and password, and then click on the credits under the Member Profile area. Follow the on-line instructions.
5. How do I know whether I fit into the old Articling Program or the Applied Experience Program?
All members who joined the Institute on or after July 1, 2001, must complete the Applied Experience Program as one of the designation requirements. All members who did not sign an articling agreement before July 1, 2001 will be required to complete the Applied Experience Program. Members who had a signed articling agreement in place before July 1, 2001, are eligible for the articling transition requirements. Members who joined the Institute prior to July 1, 2001 and have completed three years of relevant experience immediately prior to applying for their designation are also eligible for the articling transition requirements.
Your provincial association will be happy to review your membership file to determine whether you fulfill the transition requirements of articling, or whether you must complete the Applied Experience Program.
6. How do I find a mentor to fulfill the requirements for the Applied Experience program?
Choosing a mentor is one of the most critical decisions in the journey to achieving a designation with the Appraisal Institute of Canada. The guidance the mentor provides the candidate will help to form the basis for the candidate's future as a real estate valuation professional. Finding a mentor in any jurisdiction takes time and effort, but the rewards will be many. Here is a list of options to assist you in locating an appropriate mentor:
 |
 |
| • |
Public inquiries as to how to become a member of the Institute |
| • |
Provincial association conferences. This will afford you the opportunity to network with many valuation professionals. |
| • |
Network more informally through e-mail, telephone contact, and perhaps even a business luncheon. The Association office would be happy to provide you with a list of Saskatchewan AIC members in your area. |
|
|
| • |
You may have to consider re-locating within our province because our members are spread out throughout the province. |
| • |
Having said that, it is not inappropriate to consider obtaining a long-distance mentor. You want to find someone who you can relate to and can guide you appropriately. This may be better achieved with someone located on the other side of the province rather than by the person in the office next door. Not everyone is cut out to be a mentor, or is willing to take the necessary time to mentor correctly. Distance should not preclude you considering someone as a mentor. |
| • |
Remember, while an Appraisal Institute of Canada member is most familiar with our Standards, and can therefore provide guidance in this area, the Applied Experience Program does not make it mandatory for your mentor to be an AIC member. If you find someone in a related field who can assist you with applying the First Principles of Value to your day-to-day work experiences, please appoint this individual and sit the Introductory Interview. At this point the Board of Examiners can assist you in identifying whether your chosen individual is qualified to act as your mentor |
7. Am I eligible for the Post Graduate Certificate in Real Property Valuation?
Please refer to our Education page on this web site for information on the PGCV. Alternatively, log on to UBC's web site at www.sauder.ubc.ca/realestate/programs/index.cfm#pgcv.
